About Us
Welcome to Substrata Farm! We are a family owned and operated small-scale organic vegetable farm that practices regenerative farming. Our mission is to cultivate nutritious produce while caring for the land that sustains us. With the utmost respect for our environment, we are working towards building a better, healthier, more reliable food system for our direct community.
Soil health is at the heart of everything we do. By prioritizing sustainable farming practices, we ensure that our soil remains rich and fertile, allowing us to grow a diverse selection of high-quality vegetables season after season.
As a community-focused farm, we believe in fostering strong connections with our neighbors, customers, and fellow farmers. Whether you’re visiting our farm stand for the first time, or a farm share member, we love sharing the bounty of our harvest with you.
Thank you for supporting Substrata Farm. We look forward to growing with you!

OUR GROWING PRACTICES
Our farm is PROUDLY non-certified organic. We do not use any chemicals or synthetics on our farm. The best defence against pathogens, pests and weeds is living, biologically diverse and balanced soil. There is a whole universe below our feet and the microbiology that exists in our substratum must be diverse and properly balanced in order to achieve the symbiotic relationships that encourage nutrient cycling between crops and microbial life. Most nutrients that plants need to survive are already in the soil but generally not available. With well balanced soils, all these nutrients are unlocked and made available for plants so there is no need for synthetic soluble fertilizers.
At Substrata Farm, we try to encourage a diverse and balanced soil by adding compost and rock/mineral powders. Cover crops, compost teas, crop rotations, grazing, row cover, occultation, minimal tillage and attracting beneficial birds and insects are a few of the farming practices we apply. If anyone is ever curious about our farming practices and techniques, we encourage you to come witness our practices and share in conversation.
